Making Commercials Consumable For Social Media

Constantly getting new content can sometimes be tough, so a useful skill when it comes to social media is repurposing the resources you already have. One of these might be a TV commercial!

Now, before you post the TV commercial as-is, keep in mind that TV commercials are not made for social. So we have a few suggestions to transform it using Adobe Premiere (or the video editing software you prefer) to become more social-friendly!

Tip #1: Alter the ratio of the video. All TV commercials are shot horizontally (16:9 ratio, or 1920px by 1080px). Crop your video into a square (1:1) or vertical format (4:5) to optimize your condensed video for mobile (if you do this, just be mindful not to crop any faces or important information out).

Tip #2: Cut the commercial to the main buzz words or clips, so that the most important shots are in the first 3 seconds. Unlike TV, people on social media have the ability to scroll right by your commercial — so you want to catch their attention quick!

Tip #3: Use graphics and transitions to change the feeling of the video. Adding emojis can help it feel more social as well. You can find them here and import them into your new video 🙌
